About Our Trainers

NVSA has a great team of trainers!

Currently our team consists of:

  • Pauleen Fennel – Mental Health First Aid/YMHFA/CSE
  • Beth Ballie – First Aid/Food Safety


Donatella is the Executive Officer at Northern Volunteering. She has over 20 years experience managing volunteer programs including Director of services at a large hospital involving over 500 hospital and community based volunteers. Her most recent role for the last 7 years has been as Training and Development Manager for NVSA.

Donatella has a good understanding of volunteerism locally, nationally and internationally. She is held in high regard within the volunteer sector and has been on the board of AAMoV (as AAVA) – the national professional association for volunteer managers, as well as several others including community centres.

Donatella was included in the inaugural SA Honour Roll, in the 2009 – 2014 Who’s Who of Australian Women, nominated for City of Salisbury’s 2017 Legends Awards, and received a Certificate of Recognition from AAVA for her work in the sector.

She holds qualification in Community Sector Management, Training and Assessment, as well as volunteer program management including a Vocational Graduate Certificate of Management (Learning).


Pauleen has over 30 years experience working in community services as a social worker, counsellor, community educator and trainer. She has a Bachelor of Social Work, Post Graduate Diplomas in Adult Education and Counselling and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Pauleen worked as a social worker with adults living with mental illness and also with adults and children affected by violence and abuse.
Pauleen has worked for various non government community services and a university as an educator and trainer delivering learning and development activities to
professional staff, managers and volunteers.
These learning activities have included developing knowledge in relation to mental health, domestic violence and child abuse and developing counselling and communication
skills. Pauleen has also developed and delivered nationally recognised qualifications including a diploma in counselling and group work.
At NVSA/NVETS Pauleen delivers Mental Health First Aid, Child Safe Environments, Accidental Counselling, Professional Boundaries and Loss and Grief.

I have Certificate IV in TAE, 40110, includes a unit Address Language Literacy and Numeracy Skills, TAELLN411, have completed Certificate IV in Frontline Management, BSB40812, Certificate II in Emergency Service Medical First Response, HLT21112, and achieved Certificate in Adult Education Level 4&5 issued by New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

First Aid Experience:
Two years with St John in New Zealand – Trained First Responder – Volunteered at events as well as Ambulance Service,
Four years St John SA – Divisional Manager, Training Officer, Volunteered at Events,
Eighteen months with EMT SA – Volunteered at Motorsport events, as well as community Ambulance.

Food handling experience:
25+ years of extensive experience as a chef that stretches from Community Centre, A la carte restaurant, Resthome, Stadium Executive Chef, Hotel Buffet, RSL, Marae, Hospice, Catholic Brother and so forth.

Currently – Confederation of Australian Motor Sports (CAMS) motorsport official,
Previously, in Australia, four years volunteered as a cook for senior citizens at Para Hills Community Centre, under Salisbury Council management,
Former Committee member of Salisbury RSL.

In my down time I like to airbrush, cook and watch the weeds grow in the garden.
